GAME SUMMARY

Voyager Volleyball team lost the highly anticipated rematch versus Northern High School by a score of 1 - 3 Sets (13 - 25; 11 - 25; 25 - 21; 17 - 25).

Playing in a packed Voyager gym for the team's home opener, Voyager Lady Vikings lacked the same energy and fire that stung the Lady Knights just forty eight hours earlier.  Vengeance in their eyes, Northern came out seeking immediate retribution leaping out to a insurmountable 12 point lead in Set 1.  Intent on making short work of the set and match, the Knight's continued their unrelenting onslaught closing out the set in short order.  Set 2 outcome proved no different for the unsuspecting home team despite numerous substitutions to the lineup by the Voyager coaches

Suffering from a disastrous start to the game and on the brink of total annihilation, the sleeping little giant from Ben Franklin Boulevard suddenly awoke.  Although visibly dazed and disoriented by the torrential storm that had been pounding their Viking vessel, Voyager finally regrouped to regain their moxie in Set 3 sparked by much improved team defense, better ball control and a 10 - 0 service run.  Poised with new found gusto, the Lady Vikings cleared a successful path capturing the 3rd set in convincing style just when it appeared the vastly hyped rematch would never materialize.

Momentum now clearly on their side with dwindling home crowd faithfuls cheering them along, Voyager's battle tested crew positioned themselves to make the match another epic five setter.  As uneasiness settled in on the Lady Knights' camp, Voyager took an early lead in Set 4 sustaining that pace until halfway through the set.  As the two formidable adversaries exchanged blows down the stretch, Voyager's youthful corps committed multiple untimely attack errors to their detriment, favoring their unyielding opponent.

All around utility role player Senior #8 Zarria Bratts (DS/L), who entered the game in the second set when it appeared the nail was in the coffin, helped ignite the Viking comeback.  Senior Captain #4 Caitlin Leggett (OH) proceeded to take charge of the game in the third set as her teammates rallied around her "lets go get'em" mindset previously lacking by the team.  Junior Setter #16 Briggs Rose grabbed the helm stirring the rest of the usually potent Viking arsenal by feeding Sophomore #14 Kiera DeGroat, Junior #2 Kamryn Boyce, and the remaining artillery at her disposal.

Voyager's head Coach Steve Deluca commented post-game, "Our ladies are certainly disappointed with the effort this evening, and know there's much work to be done ahead us.  Tomorrow's a another day for our team, and we'll continue to improve as the season progress"

The Lady Vikings (1-1 record) head on the road to Ravencroft School on Friday, 8/18/17.  Game time is 5 pm.
