Announcements and Important Events
Parents/Guardians and Student-Athletes,
I have been getting a lot of individual emails and calls about the last message sent, so I am composing this to clear up any confusion.
1. The first official day of Fall sports practice/tryouts for High School Sports is July 31st. This is for any student-athlete grades 9-12 that were either promoted or did not failed more than 1 class last spring semester. If you failed 2 course, or were not promoted to 9th grade, you are not eligible for sports this fall or winter.
The first official day of Fall sports practice and tryouts for the Middle school Fall sports teams are August 10th. This is for any student, grade 6-8th, that was promoted and did end the year with a failing grade.
2. VA Fall Sports are as follows:
VAHS Sports - Coed Cross Country, Women's Golf, Women's Tennis, Volleyball JV & Varsity, and Men's Soccer. Again the first day of official practice or tryouts will be July 31.
VAMS Sports - Girls Tennis, Boys Soccer, Volleyball A & B team, and Coed Cross Country. Tryouts/official practice for these sports will begin August 10.
3. An email was sent out earlier requesting that anyone that is interested in playing a fall sport at Voyager use the Formreleaf website to fill out required paperwork and forms - to be turned in or submitted by July 20. The reason was so that we could double check the interest forms for tryouts, that was also included in that email, against forms filled out and submitted to prevent anyone from missing tryouts or first official practice due to improper or forgotten paperwork.
This does include physicals if you fall into 1 of the following 2 categories. 1. You have never played a sport at Voyager before and we do not have your physical on file. 2. Your physical has expired, meaning it is older than 365 days. If you do not fall into these categories than the physical will have on file is good until it expires. Nate Rice, does a great job of reminding coaches and even some parents of these pending expirations.
4. All schedules and changes to schedules will be communicated from the athletic office via the following website http://www.voyagerathletics.com
If you need help with the Formreleaf website contact the help desk for additional information.
Also thanks to all our student-athletes, administration, coaches and sponsors. Voyager finished 9th in the state in the Wells Fargo Cup. This cup is awarded to the school in each A division that has the best finishes in NCHSAA sponsored state championships, based on a points system. This is by far the highest finish we have ever had at Voyager and it could not have been done without all of you.
MS Coaches Needed
The board has made it clear they want to avoid having parents be the coach of teams in which their sons or daughters are involved. As such we are looking to fill the following coaches roles, middle school golf (spring) and boys and girls MS soccer. If you know of anyone that would be interested in those positions please contact me directly.
Lastly, as you know we are a self funding program, as such fundraisers and sponsorships are the engine that makes our car go. If you are a student-athlete you are expected to participate in Athletic Department wide fundraising. The first fundraiser will be go play save, it is a big revenue generator for our program, and will begin upon our return to school. There are great prizes and great savings to be had for those that partake in this fundraiser and I urge you all to please help us help our youth through this initiative.
As always thank you for all you do, and look forward to seeing you all very soon.
We are Viking Strong,
